AMERICAN CREATIVITY AT RISK

Tricia wrote this two-part Feature Article, “American Creativity at Risk,” for Art Papers magazine, for their July/Aug. & Sept./Oct. issues, 1998.

The articles sprung from a national symposium of the same name (“American Creativity at Risk”) which Tricia co-directed with Peter Richards (of the Exploratorium) and Mary Carswell (of The MacDowell Colony). The symposium was held at Brown University & Rhode Island School of Design, Nov. 8-10, 1996, by the Alliance of Artists’ Communities (of which Tricia was Executive Director).

Presenters and panelists included Robin McNeil, Brendan Gill, Mary Catherine Bateson, Stewart Brand, Mary Schmidt Campbell, Lewis Hyde, Mel Chin. The symposium resulted in a variety of collaborations, including encouraging the creation of Creative Capital, a highly successful national artist funding and mentoring organization.
